Four goals

The IUPUI Academic Advisor Development Program (AADP) was created to achieve the following four goals:

  1. Promote undergraduate student learning and success by supporting student persistence, encouraging on-time degree completion, and increasing student engagement through enhanced academic advising.

  2. Standardize the quality of and training for academic advising across campus.

  3. Grow academic advising as a profession.

  4. Retain highly effective academic advisors who support IUPUI’s strategic initiatives and demonstrate their commitment to student success through ongoing professional development.

Deadlines for the 2021-2022 review period

  • Applicants attend orientation or view recording (Oct. 7).
  • Supervisors give approval to pursue review (Oct. 29).
  • Applicants submit rationale for review, CV, job description, and advanced degree verification to advancement panel (Nov. 19).
  • Advancement panel invites applicants to submit full set of mandatory and discretionary docs (Dec. 3).
  • Second orientation for advancing candidates (TBD).
  • All applicant docs are due (Jan. 28).
  • Advancement panel decision letters go out to applicants and supervisors (Feb. 25).
  • Responsibility centers make final decisions (March).

About the AADP Committee

To provide peer review that is representative of the diverse units providing advising and the varying experience levels of advisors, the AADP Committee is comprised of 7 Total Reviewing Members (in addition to the ex-officio members from CCAS and HR) and shall include:

  • At least three members nominated by JACADA
  • At least two members from the Campus Advising Council
  • At least one member who has advanced through the AADP
  • At least two members who advise from within a non-degree-granting unit
  • At least one member who has advised only two to three years at IUPUI

Terms. Committee members serve terms of at least two but no more than three years, with the understanding that a member can step away at any time if they decide to pursue review themselves.
